Employers FAQ

Tips and frequently asked questions for employers. In addition to the notes below, you may also want to check out the general usage rules and term of service for this site.

Top DOs and DON’Ts

NPO.net’s primary focus in on helping you, the nonprofit HR professional or hiring manager, to find the people with the skills, attitudes and behaviors necessary to assist in the delivery of your mission to the community.  We hope you view NPO.net as your partner in the adventure to find great staff and human resources.  Please contact us with all comments and concerns, so that we can make NPO.net the best nonprofit recruiting source on the web!

  1. Do: Post only jobs that you believe will need filling in the short term.  Attracting great candidates depends on NPO.net having real jobs.
  2. Do: Acknowledge job applicants.  NPO.net automatically generates a generic email to an applicant who applies internal to the system.  But a quick note from you, the employer, makes a huge difference in the mind of a candidate.
  3. Do: let us know how to make NPO.net better.  Yes, we’ve heard the one about making it free, but you can ask again if you like.

Each account has a unique login ID.  If you need to change your account ID please contact Lumity and we’ll work with you to make the change.  Please keep in mind that each ID must be unique.

Why NPO.net?

Lumity’s mission is to help other nonprofits be as successful as possible and we believe that having great staff is the most important step.

Cost

Please see the posting credit(s) and “posting subscription” under the “Posts” tab in your employer account.  Lumity keeps pricing for NPO.net posts very low, although pricing is subject to change at any time.  Most users choose to purchase subscriptions which allow virtually unlimited posting for a period of time.  Quotas may be imposed to prevent abuse and assure job postings are “real.”

How many jobs can I post?

You can choose anything from a single job post that is active for 30 days, to unlimited job posts for up to a year.  With prices between $50 for a single post to $225 for unlimited posts for a year, we have rates that are affordable for every budget.

How long does a post stay active?

Posts stay active for 30 days.  You can edit posts as many times as you wish during the 30 days.  When posts expire you will receive a courtesy email letting you know.  You may repost the position as often as you like during your active subscription period.

Reaching the right job seekers:  How do I post under multiple categories?

Virtually all categories are created specifically to allow for a single choice.  This is done for clarity and does not limit the ability of searches conducted by job seekers.

All categories require a single choice unless specifically indicated as “multiple selection.”  Searching is not impeded because users can always select multiple categories or choose the default “select all.”    Therefore, job seekers are able to appropriately include your post in their search criteria.  For example, you must choose the geographic area where the job will be filled.  A job seeker can search for jobs in the areas to which they are able to commute comfortably.

Some jobs have multiple roles that may be difficult to prioritize.  You may be concerned that if you choose the wrong category that some job seekers may not find your posting. If this is a problem, read the next section...

What if I really need to post under multiple categories?

Some jobs just defy being categorized.  This has happened in small organizations where people have to wear many hats.  Lumity recommends that you generally pick the category descriptor that is closest to your need or represents the majority of the job skills or activities you are seeking.

However, in some rare cases you may want to examine several different types of candidates to evaluate what might work best for your agency.  To reach the right job seekers, you may post the same general job description in two to three ways to target what you think the ideal candidate might look for in a job.  This allows you to attract different types of candidates that may not be possible with just a single post.  Because NPO.net subscriptions allow you to post unlimited jobs within the time limits of your subscription, it is acceptable to post two to three job descriptions that are targeting a single position in your agency.

Can I post an anonymous ad so my staff or others don't see it?

The short answer is, yes, of course.  We're here to help you be successful.  However, because the system maintains a link between the posting account and the post that can be seen publicly, we ask that you call Lumity and work with us to set up a special account for you.  It's fast, easy and won't cost you anything.  This way everyone who uses NPO.net can be assured that only the highest quality jobs are posted here.

How can my staff access NPO.net?  Can I have multiple login accounts / users?

NPO.net provides a single login ID and password for each agency.  These credentials can be shared among key staff as well as the hiring manager.  Please communicate with users what your policy is regarding responding to applicants or editing postings / making new postings.  As incremental postings are free under a subscription plan, you may choose to empower certain managers to post their own job leads or edit ones that your agency has posted.  Managing access to your account is solely governed by the policies of your agency.
