Facilitate the transition of tenancy from dormant tenant body to active resident leaders who understand the goals, objective and mission of Voice of the People’s Inc and the residents’ leadership goals and objectives. Provide residents with the tools and opportunities to participate in the organizational growth and goals of VOICE; research and identify opportunities which will create linkages to the VOICE resident community and the broader community (civic activities and benefits); promote the growth of resident leaders and provide resident leadership development as well as, identify opportunities to strengthen resident involvement.

Roles and Responsibilities
A. Develop and facilitate core leadership team to meet leadership development objectives
B. Plan and provide leadership development and support.
C. Indentify and develop a pipeline of potential resident leaders who can become the pipeline of potential leaders to fill leadership roles as needed.
D. Establish and facilitate leadership promoting activities.
E. Identify and introduce appropriate linkage opportunities with VOICE community (staff, and board) and the external community at large.
F. Establish, maintain, and update periodically, resident action plan and calendar of events.
G. Plan, promote and facilitate regular resident meetings (subject matter meetings, trainings, etc.)
 

Mandatory Job Qualifications

The ideal candidate will exemplify the characteristics, skills, and aptitude to the following.

Time/Work Management:

  • Ability to organize time effectively and set work priorities as appropriate. Report to worksite regularly to perform job   duties and responsibilities; and work independently of direct supervision.

  • Knowledge of the demographic and geographic of the assigned work area and surrounding community.

  • Ability to gather data, compile information and prepare reports.

  • Ability to effectively work as a team member.

  • Knowledge of multiple software applications i.e., Microsoft Office Professional including Access, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel.

  • Ability to effectively coordinate initiative and projects with other in-house programs and community groups.

  • Knowledge of the mechanics of funding proposals and budgets.

Leadership Characteristics:

  • Ability to establish and maintain a mutually respectful relationship with low-income community, VOICE residents, co-workers and community at large.

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with agency staff, low-income individuals, community members, elected officials; applying the following skills and techniques:

                            a. Reflective listening;

                            b. Cooperative conflict resolution;

                            c. Mediation and constructive confrontation;

                            d. Effectively record observations and community information to funding source specifications.

 

 

  • Ability to differentiate and handle appropriate confidential information.

  • Ability to speak effectively in public and lead small or large groups.

  • Knowledge of community coalition building, collaboration and networking.

  • Ability to deal with confrontation and stressful situations in a constructive and professional manner.

Desired Qualifications

• A.A or equivalent experience in the field of community organizing, social work.
• Experience with diverse cultures/lifestyles and issues which impacts poverty community.
• Bilingual ability is a plus.
• Experience with managing mediation, cooperative conflict resolution and constructive confrontation.
• At least 1 year of community organizing experience or the equivalent.
