Description
The Direct Response and Stewardship Manager is responsible for the planning and implementation of strategies and activities related to securing direct response (print and online) individual gifts in order to address programmatic funding needs for GCFD. The Manager will develop and implement a strategy to build a broad and diverse base of current 55,000+ donors.
- This includes managing the direct mail vendor, providing strategy, direction, oversight, analysis and evaluation to the print direct mail program.
- The Manager will also work closely with the Communications team to support the online giving program, ensuring synergy in messaging, timing and approach.
- He/She will develop and implement strategies for individual donor stewardship for givers of less than $5,000, including new donor welcome, donor acknowledgement and upgrade, and donor recognition.
- He/she will also manage and grow the monthly donor program and manage a portfolio of donors giving between $1,00-$2,500.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage the direct response program to build a broad base of support from individual donors through the acquisition, cultivation, and renewal of prospects.
- Oversee the planning, strategy, implementation, analysis and evaluation of all direct resonse, including acquisition and renewal campaigns, donor acknowledgements, "winback" program, and web-based efforts.
- Work with the Communications team and outside vendors to manage online giving campaigns, including developing themes, designing giving forms, and acknowledging donors.
- Serve as the primary contact with direct response consulting agency.
- Manage new donor welcome process and respond to donor inquiries.
- Oversee creation of reports to analyze and evaluate direct response efforts.
- Develop and manage stewardship and recognition efforts for donors of under $5,000 in conjunction with other development team members.
- Write philanthropy-related articles/materials for Food For Thought newsletter, including donor features, 'wish lists', upcoming events and activities, etc.

- Write and regularly update all donor acknowledgement letters.
- Manage monthly donor program.

- Develop strategies to obtain and act upon donor input, such as giving and contact preferences; manage annual donor survey.
- Manage a portfolio of donors at the $1,000-$2,500 level, including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gifts from individuals.
- Includes establishing the list of "prospects," setting strategy for each prospect, monitoring prospects' giving status, developing necessary annual campaign materials, managing cultivation and recognition activities, coordinating the role of volunteers and senior management in the cultivation and solicitation process, and managing the solicitations.
- Support the Vice President of Fund Development, Director of Major and Annual Giving, and Major Gift Officer in identification and cultivation of major donors from among the donor pool.
- Conduct basic prospect research, as needed, on major donors to help qualify them for portfolio assignment.
- Bachelor's degree and five years of fundraising experience required, including at least three years of experience with high volume, complex direct response fundraising effortsStrong project management and time management skillsExcellent analytical thinking skillsAdvanced computer skills with proficiency in Raiser's Edge, Convio, and Microsoft Office Suite.
