GREEN Community Schools
The GREEN Community Schools (GCS) is a program of the MGR Foundation. GCS’s mission is to create long-term holistic partnerships between the school, local community residents, stakeholders, resources and families to ensure that the community is environmentally aware and able to successfully practice and promote sustainability in their lives, communities, and world-wide.
Position Summary
The GREEN Community Schools Program Director will be a key leader in developing an effective partnership between Chicago Public School’s Al Raby High School, the MGR Foundation, and the surrounding community. To assist administration, faculty, staff, students, parents and community members in creating a roadmap for a “soup-to-nuts” greening of their school and then overseeing the implementation of each component while recruiting, maintaining and strengthening meaningful relationships with and within the community. Ultimately, the GCS Program Director will need to empower the school and community to create sustainable practices that will last for years to come. This will include on-site/field work coordination of outreach; networking; discovering local community resources to further enhance and deepen each component; media events; as well as recruiting and coordinating the activities of individuals and organizations willing to offer quality programs and services at the school to meet the needs of this effort. This position requires an applicant that has experience in Urban Environmental Education specifically in the development of outdoor classrooms. The program director will work with school staff to integrate green subject matter into the school curriculum and provide after school programs, internships, and jobs to enhance learning. The coordinator will be a direct employee of the MGR Foundation, is accountable to the GREEN Community Schools Advisory Board, and will be based at Al Raby High School in Chicago, IL.

II. PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION including curriculum and afterschool offering implementation, facility enhancements, program based communication, and reflection, evaluation, and assessment.
III. PROGRAM SUSTAINABILITY including creating a system that will foster sustainable practices among the school, youth, and community without the involvement of GREEN Community Schools; ultimately creating a cultural shift towards green practices.
IV. PROGRAM PROMOTION including school based public awareness and external public communication.
