Description
PURPOSE OF POSITION: To assist the Head Chef, Assistant Chef, and Cook in daily kitchen operations which includes stocking, filling Program supply orders, cleaning kitchen, dining room and adjoining area, and food service as necessary.
The position is located at Mercy Home`s Boys Campus (1140 W Jackson Blvd), and the schedule is M-F 10am-6:30pm.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma or GED.
• Food Service Sanitation Certification, or willing and able to obtain certification within one year.
• Experience in food service.
• Regular and predictable attendance
• Ability to work both independently and as an active team member.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Maturity and sensitivity to cultural and individual differences.
• Ability to maintain professional demeanor while exercising judgment and discretion in work.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, recipes, menus, warning labels, packing slips and supply orders.
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds including heavy stock.
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
• Flexibility in scheduling and willingness to cover other shifts.
• Commitment to the mission, values, and goals of the Agency.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Complete tasks assigned by the Head Chef or Assistant Chef.
• Maintain cleanliness of kitchen, dining room, bathrooms, stock rooms and adjoining areas.
• Cooperate in the scheduled cleaning of specific areas and washing of dishes.
• Stock all food orders and rotate stock weekly.
• Fill Program Supply Order Forms according to schedule.
• Assist in filling and delivering Internal Event Food Orders.
• Directly oversee the work activities of youth employed in the kitchen.
• Prepare and serve meals, as directed by the Head Chef or Assistant Chef, when Cook is absent.
• Work collaboratively with the Head Chef and Assistant Chef in providing food service to Youth, Staff, Agency Advancement groups and those approved by the Director-Program Operations.
• Be flexible in scheduling for the needs of the Youth.
• Work cooperatively and professionally with all Agency staff.
