Description
The Family Service Specialist reports to the V.P. of Children/Family Services & Quality Assurance, the Child Care Administrator & the Family Service Specialist Team Leader.
Ability to handle a maximum of 51 family files
Recruit and register families into the Head Start Program
Work in partnership with the Education Team (Child Development Coordinator), to achieve PLCCA/CEDA Head Start’s Mission & Vision
Ensure that all children that are enrolled in program are given to the Team Leader
Ability to maintain full enrollment
Maintain an accurate waiting list
Provide case management services to families and children. Provide assistance, i.e. emergency services, health/dental referrals, disabilities referrals, and child abuse and neglect referrals, etc.
Document and provide follow up regarding children’s absences in the program. Provide home visits.
Ensure that all family files are updated regularly.
Assist with record keeping and follow up
Mandatory Job Qualifications
The local Family Service Specialist is responsible for the overall case management of services as it relates to the Health, Nutrition and Mental Health, and Disability Services of the Head Start Program. A working knowledge of the Head Start Performance Standards is required.
Bachelor's Degree in Social Services, Psychology, Sociology, Behavioral and Social Sciences, Communication and Organizational Leadership, Liberal Arts or Criminal Justice. Two (2) years experience in Head Start Program, preferred. Or an Associates Degree in Liberal Studies with Twenty-Two (22) years of experience in Head Start Program. Knowledge of local community resources. Also must have a physical examination, TB Test, Drug Screening, and Background Check.

Knowledge of Performance Standards, License Standards and Grantee and Local Agency Policies and Procedures.
Ability to develop and maintain an accurate record keeping system.
Ability to establish and maintain case notes.
Ability to establish relationships with families and children from various socioeconomic backgrounds.
Ability to handle administrative duties, along with being self-directed.
Possess organizational skills and time management skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Basic knowledge of computers.
Able to work as a cooperative and supportive team member.
Able to work in partnership with the Education Team.
