Heartland International Health Center (HIHC) is a Chicago based Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that believes health care is a fundamental human right. HIHC specializes in providing and advocating for accessible, affordable, high-quality health care services to individuals, families and communities who have been marginalized and underserved by the healthcare system. HIHC currently runs 6 neighborhood and school-based health centers on the north side of Chicago. Our organization has experienced significant growth in recent years, and we are budgeted to more than double in size in the next 24 months. HIHC is an affiliate of Heartland Alliance. We are seeking a passionate, experienced healthcare visionary to take our organization to the next level. The Executive Director, as the chief executive officer of Heartland International Health Center (HIHC), gives leadership and direction toward the achievement of HIHC’s mission, strategic plan, and annual goals and objectives. The Executive Director reports to the HIHC Board of Directors and oversees the implementation of policies adopted by the Board.
MAJOR FUNCTIONS/ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Board Administration and Support --Supports operations and administration of the Board by advising and informing Board members, interfacing between Board and staff, assisting Board chair and committee chairs in planning for meetings and assisting in the Board’s periodic self evaluation
Program, product, and service delivery --
Oversees the day-to-day activities and functions of the Health Center and the quality, marketing, and promotion of its programs
Works closely with Heartland Alliance to ensure operational efficiency and compatibility of agency policies
Human Resources Management -- Effectively manages the human resources of the organization according to authorized personnel policies and procedures that fully conform to current laws and regulations
Financial, Tax, Risk, Compliance and Facilities Management -
Recommends an annual budget for Board approval and prudently manages HIHC’s resources within those budget guidelines according to current laws and regulations
Executes any deeds, mortgages, bonds, contracts, or other instruments that the Board authorizes to be executed
Ensures the proper organization and filing of all corporate documents and records and the timely submission of reports to government agencies, funding sources, and other stakeholders
Fundraising -- Oversees fundraising planning and implementation, including identifying resource requirements, researching funding sources, submitting proposals and managing fundraising records and documentation
Strategic Planning -- Participates with the Board in strategic planning by
Overseeing the ongoing assessment of organizational strengths and weaknesses
Monitoring the legislative and other external environments for potential opportunities and threats
Making recommendations to the Board during its periodic strategic planning process
Community and Public Relations --
Assures that HIHC and its mission, programs, and services are consistently presented in a strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders
Develops and maintains strong relationships with key health care leaders and organizations that impact the mission and work of HIHC and initiate or participate in cooperative and collaborative partnerships as appropriate
Strategic Healthcare Visionary
· Demonstrates passion for community health care.
· Establishes relationships with industry influencers and key strategic partners.
· Continually maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in healthcare policy/financing.
Operations/Business Acumen
· Effectively leads the organization’s mission and advocates for all of HIHC’s stakeholders: patients, employees, granting institutions and board members.
· Continuous quality improvement: leads on-going measurement of performance to improve quality and satisfaction of services.
Leadership
· Promotes a culture of excellence, including empowerment, accountability, continuous learning and high ethical standards.
Strategic Relationship Builder
· Assembles coalitions and partnerships, builds “behind-the-scenes” support for ideas, gives or withholds information to have specific effects, uses “group process skills” to lead or direct a group.
Communications
· Has genuine "charisma": communicates a compelling vision that generates excitement, enthusiasm and commitment to the group mission.
· Makes complex ideas or situations clear, simple, and/or understandable. Assembles ideas, issues, and observations into a clear and useful explanation.
· Bachelors Degree in business or related healthcare field required.
· Advanced Degree preferred, but not required.
· Minimum of 10 years of total professional experience required, with a minimum of five years experience in a senior leadership role at a healthcare organization. Preference for experience in community healthcare.
· Successful record in managing and meeting budgets.
· Demonstrated track record in successful project management.
