Description
New Leaders for New Schools Chicago has been attracting, preparing, and supporting outstanding leaders and the Chicago Public Schools they lead since 2001. By providing our New Leaders Residents with rigorous, case-based training and coaching as part of a 15-month Aspiring Principals program, and continued support during their first years as a Principal, we help develop exemplary, results-focused leaders who are taking their schools to high levels of academic achievement. We now have nearly 125 program participants working throughout CPS to impact the learning of more than 50,000 students. These New Leaders are in schools across the district: in traditional, charter, and turnaround; in high school and elementary; and frequently serve Chicago’s most under-served neighborhoods.
New Leaders aggressively recruits talented individuals to become urban public school Principals, assistant Principals, and School Leaders. Through a combination of rigorous coursework delivered by nationally recognized experts, a full-time year-long residency in a Chicago Public School, and intensive work with successful veteran principals, New Leaders get unique preparation to enter school leadership positions in the district. New Leaders in Chicago will also be supported through the CPS Principal Eligibility Process and will earn a Masters of Education in Administration and Supervision and their Administrative Certification (Type 75). At the end of the year, we offer placement support to our residents and provide them with ongoing support, networking, and a lifelong community of peers. New Leaders commit to serving in their school districts for 4 years as an urban public school principal. In return, New Leaders receive more than $100,000 in coursework, instruction, and support at no cost to them. Additionally, residents are paid directly by Chicago Public Schools for the residency year and receive full benefits.
