General Summary:
The Academic Advisor (3) will report to the Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Student Services. This position will provide academic advising, as well as orientation and student support-related services information, to current undergraduate students of the School for New Learning (SNL). This includes the management of a group of assigned advisees from the point of admission at the college, as well as ongoing support to students to the point of graduation, and periodic reporting on assigned students' academic progress and persistence to graduation.
Master's degree.
Minimum of two consecutive years of experience (within the last 5 years) in academic advising.
Effective verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
Must be articulate and professional in demeanor.
Effective presentation and facilitation skills for small groups and large groups.
Effective problem solving and critical thinking skills.
Ability to set priorities, plan effectively, and make sound decisions.
Keen attention to detail and commitment to ongoing quality improvement.
Flexibility and adaptability.
Ability to interface with a diverse population of constituents (students, alumni, faculty, administrators, and staff).
Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, as well as intermediate keyboard skills.
Flexibility to work at any one of the four campuses that SNL advises at (Loop, Naperville, O'Hare, and Oak Forest) and serve students both on campus and online.
Ability to work evenings and/or Saturdays, occasionally, to advise or orient adult students who, otherwise, are unable to meet due to their work schedules.
