Parent/Provider Literacy Coach (Bilingual English/Spanish)

The Parent/Provider Literacy Coach works with parents and home-based child care providers (licensed and license-exempt) who send children to Illinois Action for Children’s Community Connections Early Reading First program to increase the number and quality of early literacy activities in the home and home-based child care settings, extending and building on the children’s classroom experiences.Duties include: presents early literacy concepts and techniques to parents and providers, extending classroom activities that cover the four essential elements of reading instruction and models literacy activities for use by parents and providers, including dialogic reading, Getting Ready to Read activity cards, Between the Lions videos, and extending the Building Language for Literacy (BLL) curriculum from the classroom.

Mandatory Job Qualifications This position requires a Master's degree in Early Childhood Education, Reading Instruction, Bilingual Education or related field; a minimum of five years of experience working with parents of young children in early education programs or similar programs; Bilingual English/Spanish; strong listening skills; respect for parents’ and providers’ strengths and their own hopes and plans; values diversity and demonstrates cultural sensitivity; strong presentation and training skills; skill at facilitating meetings and discussions and the ability to travel locally to sites.
